Howard Hughes, 80, of Dayton, passed away on June 24, 2026, at Miami Valley North. His passing has left family members, friends, and loved ones grieving the loss of a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by hard work, humility, and deep love for his family.
Born on December 25, 1945, Howard dedicated much of his working life to Delphi, a division of General Motors, where he served as a janitor. Through years of steady commitment, he earned the respect of his colleagues and later retired after a long and faithful career. He was also a proud member of UAW Auto Workers Local #696, remaining connected to the community of workers he stood alongside throughout his life.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, and his passing marks the end of a life shaped by resilience and perseverance. He is survived by his loving wife, Connie; his daughter, Amanda Pendergast; and his son, Brian Hughes (Ginger). He also leaves behind stepchildren Tracy Rivera (Henry) and Kevin Triplett (Jennifer); his brother, Jerry Hughes; grandchildren Kayla, Taylor, Jessica, Austin, Kiara, and Kevin; three great-grandchildren; and many extended relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
Family members describe Howard as a man who valued love, loyalty, and togetherness above all else. He was a steady presence in the lives of those closest to him, offering guidance, support, and unconditional care. His family has expressed deep sorrow at his passing, while also holding onto gratitude for the memories, lessons, and love he shared throughout his life.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in Howard’s memory.
